Mawja (موجا) — the wave, the flow, the signal
I build software, design cloud infrastructure, manage Linux and Windows servers, secure deployments, and make music. Most days I'm deep in code — Rust, TypeScript, Python — architecting systems, automating infrastructure with Terraform and Ansible, managing databases like PostgreSQL and MySQL, or training AI models. Some days I'm in the studio recording. Both are the same thing to me: taking something from idea to reality, getting the details right, and not stopping until it works the way it should.
Mawja (موجا) — the wave, the flow, the signal
Mawja (موجا) is the name I use online — short, warm, easy to say. It comes from the Arabic word for "wave" — movement, signal, flow. I chose it because it's simple, musical, and memorable. My real name is Mujahid Siyam, and my handle everywhere is itsmawja. I'm a Sudanese software engineer, network engineer, AI cloud architect, data scientist, rapper, and hip-hop producer, born in Sudan and currently based in Paris, France.
I started with music before I ever wrote a line of code. At 16, I was forming bands in Sudan, recording tracks, performing wherever I could. Music taught me how to build something from nothing — an idea becomes a sound, a sound becomes a performance, a performance connects with people. That creative instinct never left me. I carried it into engineering later on, where I found the same cycle: imagine, build, refine, ship.
Now I work across both worlds. By day, I'm building software systems, managing cloud infrastructure with Terraform and Ansible, designing CI/CD pipelines, working with AI models, and administering Linux and Windows servers. I build developer tools through Zaroxi Studio and contribute to open source — mostly around NixOS productivity tooling. By night — or whenever I get the time — I'm in the studio. My EP KAKASHI came out in 2022. My next EP, Rockstar, releases in August 2026. These are not two separate lives. Engineering makes me a better musician — discipline, systems thinking, iteration. Music makes me a better engineer — creativity, emotional intelligence, knowing when to trust your gut instead of a spec sheet.

I'm comfortable at every layer of the stack — from kernel configuration to frontend state management — and I'm especially good at the parts where things connect: APIs, data flow, infrastructure as code, deployment pipelines.

AWS architecture, Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, Ansible. Designing infrastructure that scales, monitoring it with Prometheus and Grafana, and automating everything that can be automated. Multi-cloud strategies when they make sense, single-cloud pragmatism when they don't.
Linux (Ubuntu, Debian, Arch, NixOS) and Windows Server administration. Managing production servers, configuring Nginx and Apache, securing networks, optimizing database performance, and troubleshooting the kind of issues that only show up at 3 AM under load.
CI/CD pipelines with GitHub Actions and GitLab CI, container security scanning, infrastructure hardening, vulnerability management. I shift security left because fixing things in production is expensive and embarrassing. Secrets management, SAST, DAST, dependency scanning.
PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, Redis. Query optimization, indexing strategies, replication setups, backup and disaster recovery. I've spent enough late nights debugging slow queries to know that database design is where most projects succeed or fail.
Network architecture, firewall configuration, VPN setup, load balancing, DNS management. Understanding the OSI model isn't academic — it's practical when you're debugging why packets aren't getting where they need to go. BGP, OSPF, VLANs, subnetting.
Building developer productivity tools through Zaroxi Studio. NixOS configurations, reproducible development environments, CLI utilities. I contribute to open source because using tools means understanding how they break, which means being able to fix them.
I've been making music since I was 16. Arabic rap, Sudanese rap, hip hop production. My EP KAKASHI released in 2022, and a new EP called Rockstar is coming in August 2026. Music and engineering feed each other — both require discipline, iteration, and the patience to get the details right.
